Small Business Utility
Advocates (SBUA)

Small Business Utility Advocates (SBUA) is a nonprofit organization that represents, protects, and promotes the interests of small business utility customers. Energy, water, and other utilities have a direct impact upon the success of small businesses. Yet, small business owners are either unrepresented or underrepresented before the California Public Utility Commission, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the courts, and other public bodies across the nation....

What SBUA fights for:

Small Business Opportunities and Programs

Utilities should help small businesses (1) understand and manage utility bills and costs, and (2) engage in new contracting opportunities with utilities.

Fair Rates

Utility costs often disproportionately impact small businesses. These costs must be equitable.

Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency

Small businesses benefit from promoting an energy future that is sustainable, efficient, and priced fairly.

Why utilities matter to small business:

  • Utilities – electricity, water, gas, etc. – cost money.
  • Small businesses need dependable utilities.
  • Utility companies are required to set fair prices.
  • Utility companies can employ small businesses.
  • Large corporations exert strong influence on utility regulators while small businesses typically do not.
